M. James Sawyer
Dr. M. James Sawyer, (B.A., Biola University, Th.M., Ph.D., Dallas Theological Seminary) has taught Theology, Church History and Historical Theology for more than thirty-eight years. Most recently he has served as Professor of Theology and Church History and Dean of the Seminary at Pacific Islands University, Mangilao, Guam.
He is the author of numerous articles and books including, Taxonomic Charts of Theology and Biblical Studies, Charles Augustus Briggs and Tensions in Late Nineteenth Century Theology, The Survivor’s Guide to Theology, Resurrecting the Trinity, A World Split Apart: Dualism in Western Culture and Theology and is co-author of Reinventing Jesus, and co-editor of Who’s Afraid of the Holy Spirit?. He has broad ministry experience including Youth for Christ, short term mission work in Peru, South America, teaching at Simpson University, Western Seminary, San Jose Christian College/William Jessup University, Tozer Theological Seminary, The Evangelical Seminary of the Caribbean in Puerto Rico and The Theological College in Stara Zagora and Sofia Bulgaria, Jordan Evangelical Seminary in Amman Jordan, as well as teaching at The Pastoral Training Institute, Accra, Ghana. He has been regularly involved with the “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” as well as being a frequent speaker in churches in Northern California. In addition, he has served on the Board of the Bay Cities Bible Institute, and the Advisory Board of Christian Counseling International. He has also served as Director of Advanced Studies for The Theology Program. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Anchor New England, and as a member of the Advisory Board of Christus Nexus, the Advisory Board of Creedo House Ministries, and the Board of Reference for Spiritual Overseers International. He also serves as a senior fellow for Christus Nexus. He has been a long-time member of Evangelical Theological Society, of which he has served as President of the Far West chapter, and adjunct professor for Grace Evangelical Seminary in Bangor, Maine.
He and his wife Kay have four sons, as well as four granddaughters and three grandsons.
