Connecting You to God's Unending Work

Jordan Update

Blog by M. James Sawyer |

Hanna (Arabic for John) is my translator as well as a student in the class. His English is self-taught, learned through studying an English dictionary and numerous times reading the only English language book he had available to him:  Around the World in 80 Days.

A Jordanian, his mother is Palestinian. Born into a nominally Catholic family, as a shy, intense and intelligent boy he committed his life to Christ 20 years ago at 16 through the ministry of a local Nazarene pastor whose life oozed “love and spirituality,” and who became a loving, encouraging & motivating mentor. Hanna flourished spiritually.

Convinced of the Lord’s call and encouraged by his church Hanna enrolled in JETS in 2004. He received his B.A. and M.Div. and is now enrolled in the Th.M. Although he loves the study and books he says: “It is not about study—it is about hearing the voice of the Lord.”

While he came to seminary to grow in knowledge—head knowledge, his interactions with people from different countries and backgrounds have had an unexpected result—he has grown in character, and love for those who are not like him. It has been aA long and hard journey but worth it.

At age 36 is also embarking on a new life-long adventure—in three weeks he is getting married!

Hanna has the heart of a scholar-pastor whose gift and passion is teaching. He is adamant, he has been called to minister in the Arab world.

It is my prayer that stories like Hanna’s encourage you and give you a vision for what God is doing in various parts of the world. We encourage you to become partners with us in preparing leaders around the world.
